Hillsboro -- Emery F. Allen, 79, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday at his home about one mile south of Hillsboro. He had been in failing health one year and seriously ill for two weeks. Educated in Parke County, he farmed all his life. He was born Aug 18, 1886, in Parke County, a son of Cornelius and Harriet Sowers Allen. He was married to Mavis M. Henley. She died in December, 1952. Surviving are four sons, Cyril M. of Rt 4, Crawforsville, Clifton H. of Wingate, Clifford of Torrence, Calif; and Kenneth W. of Rt 3, Veedersburg; four daughters, Miss Thelma Allen of Indianapolis; Mrs. Violet Miller of Behesda, Md; Mrs. Ruth Tansel of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Norma Wilson of Hillsboro; two sisters, Mrs. viola Gooding of Wallace and Mrs. Icle Shelton of Crawfordsville; 14 grandchildren, 7 greats and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Dean, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth; 3 brothers, Omer, Ethan and Arney; and two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Pickett and Miss Rozella Allen. funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Servies Funeral Home, Waynetown with Rev. John Carlson of Chicago officiating. interment will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Monday. Card of Thanks

WAYNETOWN – Funeral services for Emery Allen were held Tuesday afternoon at the Servies Funeral Home. Rev. John Servies was the officiating minister. Organ music was played by Mrs. Nellie Snyder, who included special requested numbers, “Whispering Hope,” “In the Garden,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Nephews served as pallbearers. They were Loren Allen, Leslie Shelton, Dafford Allen, Herman Pickett, George Earl Gooding and Vernard Allen. The burial was in the Wolf Creek Cemetery near Wallace. – jlr
